A good leader can engage in a debate frankly and thoroughly, knowing that at the end he and the other side must be closer, and thus emerge stronger. You don't have that idea when you are arrogant, superficial, and uninformed. |
You will both be working on the resolve:
Should students in the US have more recess time during school?
We will not choose the affirmative and negative side until we get back in September so please be ready with both affirmative (you are pro the resolve) and negative (you are against the resolve) points of view and evidence.
Please keep in mind the following points as you prepare your research and speech:

I have attached the scoring sheets that we have used in class to help you remember the points and areas that you need to keep mind during your research and preparation.
Remember that it is not just about having researched and great information, you must also present it well!
Confidence, sportsmanship, evidence and data collection, clear critical statements, and thinking like your opponents are all skills we will develop as we practice and prepare to debate!

- Reasons - At least six reasons that support your side.
- Attacks - Think of what the opposing side will state and have a response for it supported by a quote, data, examples, or an explanation.
- Quotations - Be clear in stating the important part of the quote and who stated it.
- Examples - Give examples from your own life or other resources
- Explanations - Provide as many explanations as possible of reasons or attacks
- Plan - Create a plan that will make sense for your side
- Conclusion - Create conclusions that summarize your case and plan
