STEM in Third Grade
In September, we learned to the importance of team work. We worked on developing skills in proper use of materials, sharing of materials, and communication skills and will continue to do so all year.
In October, we will learn all about the Moon, the phases of the Moon, and past and future exploration.
In November, we continue learning about the moon. Its composition and engineering landers to explore the moon and lunar stations to live on the moon.
December is Computer Science Month! What makes a computers smart? We humans make them smart by using Code to give them specific instructions we call algorithms and sequences.
In January, the moon STEM stations are getting more complex and students are in groups exploring: creation of impact craters, composition of the moon as they dissect it in the 3-D computer, designing and building a moon lander to keep an astronaut safe.
Throughout the year, students will be working on STEM communication skills to plan and complete a task. Third graders will work in collaborative activities where they are taking turns to share ideas and complete a task.
